Spondylolysis and Spondylolisthesis

Surgical Options

If the slippage gets progressively worse or if the back pain doesn't respond to non-surgical treatment techniques and begins to interfere with normal activities, doctors at the FHCH Sports Medicine Program may recommend surgery.

During the surgery, surgeons will perform a spinal fusion between the lumbar vertebra and the sacrum. If necessary, internal braces or screws and rods will be used to hold the vertebra in place as the fusion heals.
